A turbulent introduction to the CBS programming schedule resulted in cancellation – just two episodes into its 13 episode run.

But as troubled legal drama Doubt returns with a new Saturday evening time-slot and a very uncertain future, fans have been given a taste of what to expect in a racy new scene featuring female lead Katherine Heigl.

The American actress, 38, strips off for a heated love scene with co-star Steven Pasquale, 40, during which he exposes her cleavage after pulling apart her blouse.

The actor later unfastens her bra before grabbing her exposed bottom and moving in for a passionate kiss.

Heigl who filmed many of her love scenes as brilliant attorney Sadie Ellis while heavily pregnant with son Joshua, her first biological child with husband Josh Kelley - something she later admitted was problematic. 

She told Extra: 'There's just this basketball between us. I'm like, '"I'm so sorry, so awkward!" and he was lovely, but you don't feel beautiful, really.

'It can get a little steamy, but with this situation it can't get that steamy.'

With a cast that also included Laverne Cox and Dulé Hill, Doubt only managed two episodes before its cancellation.

The inaugural season was supposed to span 13 episodes and herald  the launch of a promising new legal drama, however it doubtful that CBS will commission a second. 

From the 18-49 demographic, the pilot garnered disappointing ratings amounting to 0.8, trailing behind what ABC, NBC and Fox were broadcasting at the time.

The mid-season show, in which Heigl's glamorous defense attorney character falls for a possibly guilty client - played by Pasquale - lapsed in the ratings to 0.6 its second episode. 

Embarrassingly, it is the first show any of the 'Big 5' networks - ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox and The CW - to be axed this season.

Doubt had been critically divisive, and as of February, held a 53% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
