5 Major Roles Charlize Theron Turned Down

5.Evelyn - Pearl Harbor (2001)

Pearl Harbor was the epic in theory, bloated in practice Michael Bay movie about the historic attack by the Japanese on a U.S. Naval Base at Pearl Harbor during World War II. One major complaint surrounding the movie itself was the focus on what felt to be a forced romance between our three main characters, one of whom named Evelyn, played by Kate Beckinsale. A role that almost went to Charlize Theron before she left the project in order to shoot the romantic drama, Sweet November.

4.Elle Woods - Legally Blonde (2001)

2001 was certainly a busy year for movies Charlize Theron did not star in, as another one added to the list is Legally Blonde as the charming law student Elle Woods. Often hailed as one of the best feminist comedies ever made, Reese Witherspoon's portrayal of Woods is iconic, and it's hard to imagine Theron, or anyone else for that matter, in the role.

3.Bunny - The Big Lebowski (1998)

While the role of Bunny Lebowski played by Tara Reed in the hit Coen Brothers movie, The Big Lebowski, is a small one, it is a vital one to the story. It is Bunny's disappearance that sets into motion the entire hilarious plot of the film. Reed, who credits the movie as one of the sole reasons for her fame, was cast over the likes of Charlize Theron, who was a name supposedly considered by the Coen Brothers for the role of Bunny.

2.Vesper - Casino Royale (2006)

Eva Green knocks it out of the park as the femme fatale Vesper Lynd in the 2006 "reboot" of the James Bond franchise, Casino Royale. Alongside Angelina Jolie, Charlize Theron was strongly considered to take on the role of Bond Girl alongside the new iteration of James Bond before Eva Green was ultimately chosen. While Theron would not star in any films released in 2006, she would help co-product the documentary East of Havana about the underground hip hop scene in Cuba.

1.Rose - Titanic (1997)

Titanic held the titanic record of being one of the biggest movies ever made in the years following its release in 1997. Thanks in part to the brilliant acting of the two leads, Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. Among other actors to read for Winslet's part of Rose was Charlize Theron. Needless to say, neither of Theron's two 1997 offerings came close to the success of Titanic, but to be fair, no other film that year touched the epic movie.
